Jodhpur-Tales of Grandeur and great Heroes

Once the capital of the Marwar State, it was founded in 1459 A.D. by Rao Jodha - chief of the Rathore clan of Rajputs who claimed to be descendants of Rama -the epic hero of the Ramayana. A major trade centre of the 16th Century A.D., the Fortress City of Jodhpur is now the second largest city of Rajasthan.

Mehrangarh Fort: The fort built (1459 A.D.) by Rao Jodha, rises steeply from a rocky scrao winds up to the massive gatewayBook Now with immense portals and enter through the Gate of victory - Jai Pole and Loha Pole marked with palm prints of Sati (Rajput Ladies immolated themselves on funeral fire of their husbands.) See Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal & Rang Mahal with arched windows, chiseled and stone lattice work and exuberance of painted walls and ceiling with miniature. These palaces house a fabulous collection of trappings of Indian royalty including a superb collection of palanquins, elephant howdahs, miniature paintings of various schools, musical instruments, costumes and furniture.

Jaswant Thada: Richly carved white marble cenotaphs of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II which preserves the genealogy of the rulers of Jodhpur along with their life-size protraits.
