Bikaner - Citadel of Culture and Camels

Founded in 1488 AD by the Rathore prince, Rao Bikaji- a descendant of the founder of Jodhpur. This is a true desert city and situated on the ancient caravan routes which linked West / Central Asia and north India with the seaports of Gujarat, making Bikaner a flourishing trade centre in the medieval period.

Visit the Junagarh Fort, the impregnable fort, which has the distinction of remaining unconquered.

Raja Rai Singh (1571- 1611AD), built this impressive fort. It is encircled by a moat with kiosks and balconies. Some places of interest inside the fort are Anup Mahal, Ganga Niwas, Durbar Hall, Har Mandir, Gaj Mandir, Sheesh Mahal, Karan Mahal, Phool Mahal and Chandra Mahal.

Half day tour to Deshnok Temple

30 km from Bikaner on the Jodhpur road, see the miracle temple of Karni Mata presiding deity of the royal house of Bikaner. An interesting feature RATS are the worshipper of Karni Mata, an incarnation of goddess Durga in the form of BARDS and are present in large numbers within the precincts of the temple, thus also known as Rat Temple.

An oasis in the desert 32 km from Bikaner on the Jaisalmer road suddenly burst into forest, a beautiful palace built in red sand stone stands on the banks of the Artificial lake, see migrating birds ( during winters), Imperial sand grouse from Siberia-flocks of birds swoop down to drink water and fly again. Other wild life in abundance on drive in jungle see black bucks, wild boar, blue bull (Nilgai), bee eaters, peacocks, hoopoes, paradise fly catchers, crow, pheasants and ducks.

A memorable Jeep Safari to Katariasar Village- lies 45 km on Bikaner - Jaipur highway. This village is place of origin of Jasnathis ( sadhu ), the followers of Saint Jasnath, who dance on fire in group of 20-30 people bare foot. The mud houses, colourful huts, traditional costumes of ladies, sand dunes and sun set point are main attractions. Also see wild animals like deer, antelopes, Rabbits, foxes, jackals and birds as partridge, peacock etc.
